Tongue Wagging Part 2
James 3:5b-12
Having introduced the subject of the tongue, a small member of the body, yet has the power to control much, James now looks at the negative aspects of its use. To make his point, James compares the tongue to a forest fire showing how just a spark can cause so much damage. Likewise the tongue, being a small member of the body, can do great damage. A few misspoken words can make a person completely unwelcome. Moreover the tongue can ruin the reputation of a church body. Finally, James shows how water cannot be both bitter and fresh, a fruit tree cannot bear both good and bad fruit, yet the tongue can be used to both bless and curse. Therefore, as believers, we need the Holy Spirit to control our tongues and our lives.
