2 Samuel 7

After many years of being chased by Saul and the many wars with Israel's enemies, God finally gives David rest all around. No doubt reflecting upon God's faithfulness and His oft times of deliverance, made David see how blessed he is. With a right heart, he sought for a means to honor the Lord especially since the Lord had showcased him with a wonderful dwelling place in Jerusalem. He shared these desires with Nathan the prophet and received an encouraging response. Subsequently, God spoke to Nathan having him tell David that he could not build Him a house because of the amount of bloodshed in his past. However, God then gives to David a great promise resulting in what is known as the Davidic Covenant that leads all the way to Jesus.
