Saul is Anointed King
1 Samuel 9-10
With the people's demand to have a king like other nations, Samuel anoints Saul to be the first king of Israel. God had planned for Israel to have a king that would represent Him and would serve Him as Samuel had, but the people wanted a king like the world. So this 1st king, Saul, would really better represent what the people wanted and looked for and would hardly be God's choice for them. Saul looked the part. He was handsome and tall. But none of these traits point to godly qualifications since God looks upon the heart. In this study we see the basis for politics today.
