The Early Church, because of the preaching of the Gospel, had a logistical problem - too many people. Therefore, the Apostles, who knew their calling were to pray and minister the Word, instructed the infant church to appoint leaders of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom to minister to the physical needs of the people. As a result seven men were chosen of whom were Stephen and Philip. This passage offers us great insight on how to church future church leaders. Look from within and not from without.
