Ephesus: What Is Your Motivation?

Revelation 2:1-7
Ephesus is the first of seven churches that received a special message from Jesus. This church, originally founded by Paul, continued to be faithful to the Lord and to the Word of God. In the letter from Jesus, He commended the believers for their many good works and perseverance through many trials. At the same time, he gave them words of correction because they had left their first love, which was Jesus. As such, they were no longer motivated by love, which is a challenge that many believers face. This is a great study on spiritual priorities.

Revelation 2:8-11
In this second letter that Jesus wrote to the Seven Churches of Asia, He wrote to Smyrna, the persecuted church. Even though the believers were facing heavy persecution, Jesus encouraged them by saying that He knew all that they were facing. He knew their trials and their impoverished conditions that were brought on by those who were persecuting them. He then encouraged them further to be fearless and faithful through their whole ordeal. From these encouraging words, we can be confident that Jesus knows and sees all that we face.

Pergamos: A Church In Compromise

Revelation 2:12-17
The church in Pergamos was not only a real church in the 1st century, but it also prophetically represented the 3rd century church as a whole. As such, history tells us that during the 3rd century, the Church was led into compromise in order to accommodate the many pagan religious cultures that were required to adopt Christianity. Today, much of what is called the Church is also wrestling with these same issues by allowing the Scriptures to be compromised so as not to offend.

Thyatira: Of What Spirit Are You?

Revelation 2:18-29
The church in Thyatira was a mix of all kinds of church goers both godly and ungodly. Regardless how they looked on the outside, the stare of Jesus saw the heart. He knew those who were walking uprightly as well as those who had been seduced by a false teacher, named Jezebel. What was happening in this first century church is a prophetic framework for what took place during the Middle Ages when unbiblical rituals and practices were brought into the church. Pastor Jack stresses the importance of staying true to the Word of God in order to defend against the many false doctrines that are being taught today.

Sardis: Wake Up!

Revelation 3:1-6
Prophetically, Sardis represents the church during the time of the Reformation when suddenly the Word of God was open to all. However as time went along the church in general began to drift away. Outwardly, it seemed very much together, but Jesus saw things differently. Looking within, He saw a church that was dead. Typically this is a plague that many Christians battle. They start off well, but in time they lose the freshness of their intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus’ warning to this church and to everyone who is in this state is to repent and remember where they once were.

Revelation 3:7-13
In this sixth letter to the Seven Churches, the letter to the church in Philadelphia, we find only praise and promises from Jesus to these faithful believers. Prophetically, this church represents the missionary-minded church that spaned the era from the Reformation unto World War I when some of the great preachers of the past such as Whitefield, Wesley, Spurgeon, Finney, Edwards, Moody and others rose up and were greatly used of God.

Revelation 3:14-22
The Laodicean church is Jesus’ final and seventh letter that he wrote. This church was not only a real church in its day, but also prophetically represents the final state of the Church Age before the rapture. As such, we learn that this church and the age it represents is characterized as being lukewarm, a state that Jesus hates. In this study, Pastor Jack gives us a five-point self evaluation test to determine the quality of our relationship with Jesus Christ.

Worthy Is The Lamb

Revelation 5:6-14
Without question, perhaps the greatest event in all of history outside the cross, is found in Revelation 5 when Jesus at some future point will prevail to take the book of seven seals, which is the title deed to the Earth. Then through a series of judgments contained within this book, the Usurper, Satan, will be evicted from his dominion, which he has had since he seduced our first parents in the Garden. Seeing Jesus as both the Lamb and the Lion evokes an amazing worship scene as the Church and all the angels laud praises upon the One who alone is worthy.
