Acts 7:51-60
Stephen was one of the great men of faith in the early church. Though he was not an apostle, he holds a special place in scripture because he was chosen to minister to the widows who were being cared for in Jerusalem. From his first ministry of caring for widows, the Lord raised him up to be a powerful witness to the point of being brought before the Sanhedrin. In this study, Stephen now brings an indictment against the Jewish religious leaders based on present and past history that angered the men to the point that they spontaneously stoned Stephen until dead making him the first martyr of the Church.

Acts 7:1-50
Acts 7 tells us how quickly God raised up Stephen from being a serving deacon in the fledgling of the Church to a Bible teacher fearlessly teaching the religious leaders in Jerusalem. In Acts 7 we have one the longest sermons recorded where Stephen recaps Israel’s history in laying the foundation for his cutting message that provoked the religious leaders to make him the first recorded martyr of the Church.

Romans 1:24-32
When man persists in his rejection of God’s revelation of truth, there are consequences to that rejection. In these verses we find that God will eventually give to man what his rebellious spirit wants by loosening all restraints to the point where he does that which is completely unnatural.

Acts 6:8-15
Continuing from the previous study where we have learned that the Church was to choose seven men, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, and appoint them as overseers of the temporal needs of the people. One of those men was Stephen, a man whom we are told was full of faith, who became a fearless witness of the Lord Jesus Christ. In this study, Pastor Jack reminds us of the characteristics of the kind of individuals that God uses, characteristics that were found in Stephen.

Understanding Unbelief (Part 1)

Romans 1:18-23
We all like to hear messages about God’s love and grace, but we also need to realize that God is holy and just and as such will one day judge man for his sin and rebellion. We praise the Lord that in His great love, He sent His Son, Jesus, to the cross so that those who humbly come to Him for forgiveness can know that their sin has been judged and condemned when Jesus died. For those who reject God’s offer of forgiveness, they will one day stand before Him to be judged for their sin. In this study from Romans, Pastor Jack shows us the consequences of unbelief.

Acts 6:1-7
The Early Church, because of the preaching of the Gospel, had a logistical problem - too many people. Therefore, the Apostles, who knew their calling were to pray and minister the Word, instructed the infant church to appoint leaders of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom to minister to the physical needs of the people. As a result seven men were chosen of whom were Stephen and Philip. This passage offers us great insight on how to church future church leaders. Look from within and not from without.

Romans 1:8-17
In these verses we have Paul’s salutation for his letter to the Romans wherein he goes into detail to describe his prayer life, his love for the people in Rome, a people he had never seen, and his burning desire to one day see them so that he could bless them with a spiritual gift. Regardless of present trials that believers faced, he was determined to preach the gospel because he was not ashamed. This study should help us understand the true servant of God and be able to evaluate his motives.

Our Relentless Enemy

Acts 5:17-42
From the example of the early believers, we see that Satan is relentless as he constantly tries to stifle the work of the Church. Having quelled the opposition from within, the Church once again moves in its outward witness only to find the enemy to be waiting and ready to go on the attack. The saying, “to be forewarned is to be forearmed,” certainly prepared the people to expect opposition and be ready to sacrifice their own lives if necessary to proclaim the Gospel.
